Why not start your gap year off by discovering more about the British Isles. It may not strike you as an exotic location, compared with Thailand, but knowing more about the countries closer to home will help your future employment chances. Employers love to have intelligent, curious workers who have an interest in what makes their economy, and therefore business, tick. Ireland offers a wealth of landscape, industry, history and politics as well as music and entertainment too. Here are some great tips for travelling to, and around, Ireland on your gap year.
Flying into Ireland from the UK is easy. Aer Lingus, the national carrier of the Republic operates from nine airports in the UK and nine cities across Europe. Dublin, Cork and Shannon are all only an hour from the UK and Dublin is the main airport for the Republic of Ireland. There’s a frequent bus service from the airport to the city centre so transport to your accommodation should be easy. Flights from outside of Europe are frequent, although often involving one change at a continental European airport.
The alternative method of reaching Ireland from other European destinations is by sea ferry from the UK or France. If there are a few people travelling in a car or camper van, this can be a very economical way of getting there. The high speed ferry from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Dun Leary) takes only 90 minutes. Other ferry services run from Fishguard, Pembroke and Swansea in Wales. You can also travel from France to Rosslare or Cork.
If you are planning on travelling around Ireland, then a car is a good idea. The roads can be rough and difficult to navigate in rural areas. You drive on the left in Ireland. However, if you only want to stay in Dublin, owning a car can be more of a nuisance than it is worth.
The bus service in Ireland is good value for money and runs between all major destinations. Rail is another way of travelling around, and both rail and bus networks are run by CIE. At Dublin airport you can buy prepaid, advance and discount tickets from the CIE information desk. You can also pick up maps and information too. DART is the Dublin Area Rapid Transit transport network. It covers 25 railway stations in the county. Dublin Bus (Bus Atha Cliath) is an economical way of getting around the city. There is an airport link from the city centre every 20 minutes from early morning until 11pm. You can also buy advance tickets from Dublin Bus Head Office on Upper O’Connell Street. An alternative to public transport is using specialist backpacker tours. The best known of these is Paddywagon, but they all offer slightly different packages, depending on the kind of travel experience you are looking for.
Expect to pay between 10 – 20 for a room in a hostel or dorm, depending on when you go. If you are planning on staying in Dublin for a longer period of time, think about alternatives to hostels. Be aware that short term rented accommodation is not easy to come by, and keep an eye out on noticeboards at the university or in bookshops. The situation is particularly difficult at the start of the university term in September time. Hostels in Dublin in the summer are very busy, so you will need to prebook to be sure of having somewhere to stay when you arrive.

Web Dot Com has been chosen to do the website design and website development for Air Philippines.
Air Philippines, also called PAL Express, is a low cost domestic airline that has been awarded four times by the Consumers Union of the Philippines as the Most Outstanding Domestic Airline. Its parent company is the national flag carrier, Philippine Airlines.
Air Philippines flights cover Manila, Cebu, Davao, Caticlan, Iloilo, Zamboanga, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Surigao, Ozamis, Dipolog, Tacloban, Virac, Tuguegarao, Mindoro, Puerto Princesa, Ormoc, Naga, Catarman, Calbayog and Busuanga.
The Air Philippines website landing pages have a fiesta-like theme with red and yellow as the dominant colors, balanced by a touch of blue and generous white borders on both sides. These are the colors of the Philippine flag, tying Air Philippines to its parent company. The Air Philippines logo, which is a stylized red eagle in flight against a yellow sun, is prominently displayed and adds to the vibrant look of the page.
The focal point is the flash animation showing an Air Philippines plane taking off. This gives dynamism to the web page. The rolling updates at the top of the page clickable to get to the full stories further entice visitors.
Right beside the flash animation is a very simple form that visitors can use to instantly book a flight or a hotel online.
At the top of the page, right below the scrolling updates, are buttons that lead to sections titled Home, Flight Info, About Us and Contact Air Philippines. Much higher on the upper right hand corner is the link to the airlines route map.
On the lower half of the main page are buttons that link to the Flight Schedule, Rate Sheet and FAQs. There are also buttons to get to the page about corporate accounts, the sign up for free email alerts, travel tips and the Air Philippines blog.
The Featured Destination page can be reached through a very attractive photo link on the main page. As this article is being written the Featured Destination is Palawan and the photo link is of the famous Underground River.
A much smaller flash section at the bottom of the page scrolls through thumbprint photos. This serves as the link to the Picture Gallery for Air Philippines activities.
All in all, the impression one gets from the website design is fun and friendliness. The visitor cannot help but associate these adjectives with the airline that the website represents.

Brazil is known for its sizzling hot sandy beaches, its lively nightlife, its crystal waters perfect for surfers and sunbathers alike, and its rich cultural traditions seen in its jazz music, samba dance, and delicious African-influenced cuisine. But many travelers to Brazil do not know that the country requires a reciprocity fee and visa from citizens of the United States as well as Canada. If you are planning a trip to Brazil, make sure that you have a Brazil visa in addition to your passport. Here are some tips on how to obtain a Brazil visa for your Brazil travel plans.
Who Needs a Brazil Visa?
Brazil requires a reciprocity fee from citizens of the United States and Canada, since those countries require a fee and visa from Brazilians when traveling to their countries. Whether you are traveling to Brazil for a vacation or on business, American and Canadian citizens must obtain Brazil visas. Citizens of many Latin American countries, Europe, Asia, and the UK are exempt. Some countries are exempt from the tourist visa only. You can check online by doing a quick search or going to the Brazilian Consulate General’s website to see if your country of citizenship is exempt. If you are a citizen of an exempt country, but are living in a non-exempt country, it is still important that you research the qualifications for your situation carefully.
How to Get a Brazil Visa?
The process for obtaining a Brazil visa is very strict. To obtain one, you need to go in person to the nearest Brazilian consulate. Brazil visas are not obtained by mail. Do a search online to find a nearby Brazilian consulate; if there are none close by, then you may need to use a visa service or visa agency. There are 1-2 Brazilian consulates in most major US cities. First, make an appointment online or by phone with the consulate to secure a time to meet with a representative.
What do I Need in Order to Get One?
You need an original passport, not a copy, for all members of your party. It is also a good idea to bring a copy of your flight itinerary and/or flight tickets or other booking information, so that you can prove the purpose of your trip. Make sure that you bring any documentation that may be pertinent to your Brazil travel plans.
How Soon Can I Get One?
Brazil visas are prepared within 5 business days as of the day received by the Brazilian consulate, but occasionally it can take longer. There is no option for expediting the process, although you can request that your visa be rushed.
Follow these necessary steps to obtaining your Brazil visa, and you will be on your way to the Brazil vacation of a lifetime!

When traveling many things can and do go wrong. Following a few simple rules could help prevent many of those problems fellow travelers encounter on the road.
Problems that could mean you spend time:
At the police station filling reports.
Locked in your hotel room, scared it will happen again.
Leaving with bad memories and a dislike of the local people.
Replacing items lost, that can cost you lots of money.
Or just totally annoyed, ruining your holiday.
So what can you do? Here are a few tips for staying safe and still enjoying your holiday!
Common Sense
The single most important tool for traveling safe! You’re in foreign land, meeting new people, walking down strange roads, eating and drinking new things. Use your common sense, if it doesn’t feel right – do something about it.
Carry Only What You Need
If you are heading out on the town to discover new bars or taking photos at the local fish market, do you really need to carry your passport, travelers cheques, excess cash, visa card, American express card, plane tickets etc? Take what YOU need and leave the rest in the hotel safe. Better to lose a little, rather then everything.
Spread It All Out
A good tip is to place a small amount of money in a few different bags/pockets. By doing this, if you happen to lose a bag, visa card or money, you will still have something there to keep you going until it can be resolved.
Two Credit Cards
Many couples traveling will have 2 credit cards, both accessing the same account. The problem here is if one is lost, you have to cancel the account, meaning the 2nd card is no longer valid.
So think about getting two cards, each accessing separate accounts. If hubby loses his, the wife will still have a fully functioning credit card so you can continue traveling.
Hold Your Bags and Cameras
A big thing now is bag/camera snatching. To prevent this happening to you, make sure you wear the backpack on your back. Sling your camera over your head and shoulder. Walk on the pavement; motorbikes and cars can’t drive here!
If you leave your bag/camera dangling of one shoulder, someone WILL grab it!
Empty Your Back Pockets
Most guys (and some girls) will place their wallets in the back pocket of their jeans or shorts making them an easy target for pick pockets. Change your habit, place money/wallets in the front pockets or perhaps buy a bum bag (bags that strap around your waist). Out of sight, out of mind!
Scams and Scams
We have all read about the different scams that people have fallen for. Truth is, people continue to fall for them! Why? Because the scammers are professionals, it’s their job and their good at it. In most countries, the local people will be kind, courteous and helpful. Use your common sense. If unsure, leave. Or try asking other travelers, locals or hotel staff for advice.
Their Smarter
One of the problems people have when traveling, is that they think they are smarter than the scammers, robbers and pick pockets. The sad reality is; your wrong, THEY ARE SMARTER!
Remember, these people do it for a living. This is how many of them feed themselves and their families. They are pro’s and very good at their craft.
Lock it
If you use a small backpack or day bag when wondering the streets or local markets, buy a small padlock and use it. Instantly, would be pickpockets will be put of.
If you are like me and continually lose the keys, trying using a small D-Shackle, like they use in rock climbing. It doesn’t lock; rather it acts as a deterrent for unwanted hands getting into your bag.
D-Shackles can be brought at most sport shops or large supermarkets for just a few dollars
Opportunity Knocks
Many of the problems outlined above happen only when travelers let their guard down. The basic rule of thumb is – you give them the opportunity, they will grab it with both hands!
Enjoy
The most important aspect for any traveler, ENJOY your travels! Being paranoid will have you locked in a hotel room. Prepare, use your common sense and then get out there, meet the locals, try the food and have fun.
Traveling by air for a business trip can become a much better experience if you have someone’s air travel tips at the back of your head.
There are countless things that one can plan for business traveling in order to have a nice and comfortable flight and there are numerous air travel tips available online. But like any other thing, it is from others’ personal experience that one can settle for the finest few, which are not only easy to remember and implement but outsmart any other flight travel tips.
For the same reason, I thought I’d share some tips that have worked wonders for me over the years.
Give choosing the right seat a high priority.
I, like many others, used to be one of those travelers who would ignore all air travel tips there are and say to myself that I’ll get what I deserve. But you need to trust me when I say now that spending the few extra minutes either choosing the seat online or paying extra for a better seat is probably the best gift you can give yourself on a flight.
Left, Right or Center
There are many different stories on which kind of seat worked best for who, so I’d recommend that you make your own opinion with time about that. For first time business travelers, just go for the window seat – this gives you two important advantages over everyone who doesn’t have a window seat: you have something to lean on to sleep and you don’t need to wake up or be uncomfortable because your neighbor wants to go to the toilet.
Always have headphones by your side
Some people tend to say that if you have means to catch the in-flight entertainment, you will probably never get in the mood to sleep/rest on the flight. But what those airplane travel tips would never say is that if headphones can be your rescue if you just can’t do anything else. Better still, sometimes melodic instrumentals available on the in-flight music list can prove to be just the lullaby you were yearning for. And if you want to take this to an even higher level, carry a noise cancelling headphone with you so that all you hear is your music.
Be mindful about your airline carry on
Again, some would tell you that any hassles linked to your airline carry on would be short-lived and worth the extra things you will have accessible. What I’d like to share about that is this: it can sometimes be anything but short-lived. If your extra carry on ends up by your legs, then there goes the little leg-room that you had.
Saving time means more time spent (sometimes)
And sometimes, the time you think you would save on departing and checking in with just the airline carry on as your luggage would make your business trip swifter than usual, but you might just end up having to put your carry on luggage away from your seat just because there’s too much. And that would kill any advantage you had to begin with.
To sum it all up, don’t think about too many things or too many options that you can choose from, just keep things simple and have a great time flying.
